The AntArchitecture Action Group is delighted to hold its 2024 Workshop on 25-26 August in collaboration with the Centre de Estudios Científicos in Chile. The meeting is designed as a side meeting at the end of the SCAR OSC which ends on Saturday 24 August. We will run the meeting hybrid. For in-person attendees CECs graciously provide free transport transfers to/from Pucón and Temuco Airport for the start/end of the meeting – more details are below in this page.

Please note that this page will evolve as we finalise the arrangements and schedule over June 2024.

Purpose of the workshop and provisional schedule

We envision two main purposes to the workshop. The first is to facilitate networking, especially amongst Early Career Researchers and any other colleagues new (and old!) to the AntArchitecture scientific community. This is our first meeting with an in-person element since 2019! This will be the main purpose of Day 1 (Sunday). The second is to discuss future strategy for the AntArchitecture community. This will be the main purpose of Day 2 (Monday).

Afternoon of Saturday 24 August: Free travel provided by CECs from Pucón to Valdivia. Informal meal in Valdivia in the evening.

Sunday 25 August morning (GMT-4 09:00 – 13:00): Start of hybrid meeting.Update talks & posters from the community.

Sunday 25 August afternoon (GMT-4 14:00 – 17:00): Update talks & posters from the community. End of hybrid meeting Day 1.

Sunday 25 August evening – Workshop banquet.

Monday 26 August morning (GMT-4 09:00 – 13:00) Day 2 of hybrid meeting – Strategic discussion – what next for AntArchitecture?

Monday 26 August lunchtime – formal close of meeting.

Monday 26 August afternoon – Workspaces available in CECs for group discussions / private working

Monday 26 August afternoon / Tuesday 27 August morning – Free travel provided by CECs from Valdivia to Temuco Airport.

Presentations

As part of the networking process, we encourage delegates, both in-person and online, to consider presenting some updates of your latest exciting research. This can be in the form of 15- or 7-min talks and/or poster(s) – you may offer a talk and poster, or multiple posters. These can be the same as presentations you have given previously, e.g. at SCAR OSC the previous week! Presenting again here is to a more focussed audience.

For clarity, we would like all posters, as well as talks, to be fully accessible to a hybrid audience – so we will set up a dropbox or equivalent for poster presenters to place electronic copies of posters, and we will schedule hybrid poster discussion rooms. Please note your intention/format of presenting anything as part of the registration process.

Online attendance

Please if planning to attend online still meet the deadline of registering by 7 June. Once we have your details we will then be in touch with a zoom link or equivalent nearer the time of the meeting.

Planning information for in-person attendees

Registration fee? For clarity, there is no fee to attend the workshop. We are kindly funded in part by our hosts at CECs, and provide some subsidy from SCAR. The only costs you need to meet will be for accommodation, and part or all of the costs for 1-3 evening meals (but we are also working on some options for part or completely covering this too.)

Flight bookings: We anticipate delegates will typically travel in/out of Chile from Temuco Airport, the main local airport advised by SCAR OSC. Although our formal meeting closes at lunchtime on Monday 26 August we suggest that delegates aim for homebound flights out of Temuco on Tuesday 27 August or later.

Travel Pucón to Valdivia (between OSC ending and AntArchitecture Workshop beginning): CECs will graciously cover minibus transport from Pucón to Valdivia on Saturday 24 August, a journey of ~2.5 hours. The earliest bus will leave in the afternoon, hence allowing delegates (if interested) to attend the Bedmap3 side meeting in Pucón (OSC Conference Centre) that runs from 11:30 – 13:30 that day. Via the registration form we are collecting information on your preferred timing for the transfer. Please note that for the evening of Saturday 24 August we do not plan to organise a formal conference meal, although it is likely that many of us will self-organise into a few groups to eat that evening.

Travel Valdivia to Temuco Airport (end of meeting): Again, CECs will graciously provide minibus transport from CECs/Valdivia to Temuco Airport (a journey of ~2 hours) at the end of the workshop. Via the registration form we are collecting information on your preferred timing for the transfer so that we can get back to everyone with more details on final arrangements.

Accommodation: We request that you arrange your own accommodation in Valdivia for the workshop. Some recommendations provided by CECs will appear here soon.

Food and drink: During the workshop, we will be graciously provided with coffee breaks and lunch (Sunday and Monday) by CECs. We will arrange a workshop banquet for the evening of Sunday 24 August. For planning purposes, we request information on your dietary preferences on the registration form.
